On The Porch With Pat
Pat Graham – Missionary Evangelist – November 2022
During our trips to Mountain View, Arkansas to visit our good friends Wayne and Betty we have spent countless hours of fellowship, laughter, and sheer delight sitting on their porch. Having retreated from the city, we delight ourselves in spotting deer, armadillos, groundhogs, various birds, foxes, and mischievous chipmunks with one guest spotting a black bear! The air is fresh, the view spectacular with sunrises that captivate my soul, as my spirit soared in anticipation of fellowship with the Lord that consumes me. He meets me here on the porch.
November brings the holiday season into focus with Thanksgiving celebrated across the nation, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, a table spread with a feast fit for royalty, football games, and warm and intimate family times as we gather with those we love. We celebrate, that’s what we do.
Will you allow me to challenge your holiday traditions? All of these traditions are good and to be cherished with one vital exception. Do we make room at the table for the King of Kings?
Many of you have infused into your celebration a time of thanking the Lord, perhaps, like us, you go around the dining table asking each person what they are thankful for. It’s a great opportunity to open up our hearts and share testimonies of the goodness of God in our lives.
Find time to quiet yourself and escape to the quiet place, that state of mind and spirit that longs for fellowship with the Lord. This is the holy place, the place of meeting. Will you open the door?
Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Isaiah 12:4-5 (NASB)
And on that day you will say, "Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; make them remember that His name is exalted." Praise the LORD in song, for He has done glorious things; let this be known throughout the earth.
Psalm 95:1-5 (NKJV)
Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth' the heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land.
